Boschveld.
The Boschveld chicken is an indigenous breed to South Africa, introduced by Mike Bosch originally as pest control such a ticks for his cattle in order to save on dipping costs. They are a hardy breed and have an inbred resistance to withstand poultry diseases and produce good quality eggs in free range conditions. The Boschveld is bred from crosses between the Venda, Matabele and Ovambo chickens in order to produce a all round performer.

Venda.
The Venda was first discovered in the Venda area of the Limpopo province. This breed is renowned for its egg production, disease resistance, self sustainability and its low feed consumption. They are great for free range conditions and perform in all South African climates. Hens Lay large tinted eggs and are known for their motherly instincts.
Egg Production: Medium-Large Tinted Eggs (200-260 per year)



Leghorn.
The Leghorn originates from the Port of Leghorn, Italy. They are a very common breed and are famous for their meduim-large white eggs. The Leghorn is a dual purpose breed and can be found in many colour varieties from the most popular white to blue or lavender. Characteristic white earlobes make them very easy to identify. Egg Production: Medium-Large White Eggs (280-320 per year)



Hyline.

Brown- The Hyline Brown is one of the worlds best brown egg layers. They begin lay early and produce great size and quality egg with minimal feed consumption. These characteristics mean good quality eggs at a fraction of the cost.
Egg Production: Large Brown Eggs (+-320 per year)
Silver- The Hyline Silver has many of the same traits as the Hyline Brown, but produces a medium egg .
Egg Production: Medium Rich Brown Eggs (+-350 per year)



Potch Koekoek
The Potchefstroom Koekoek is a South African breed which was developed in the 1960s. They are one of the most popular free range breeds in South Africa and are a great dual purpose choice. The Potch Koekoek is a hardy bird and suits a free range lifestyle. This breed was bred by crossing White Leghorns, Black Australorps and the Barred Plymouth Rock to combine their Qualities and create the beautiful specimen we know today as the Potchefstroom Koekoek.
